October is a special time in Summit County. The summer crowds have eased, the mountains take on their golden fall color, and the communities begin transitioning from fall into ski season. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly weekend, a little Halloween fun, or simply a reason to get outside and enjoy the changing seasons, there’s plenty happening throughout Summit County this month.

October 1 – ACTION! Creative Cinema Series, Breckenridge

The screening begins at 7 p.m. and is free for guests 21 and older.

More Ways to Enjoy October in Summit County
Of course, you don’t need a special event on the calendar to enjoy October here. Fall foliage is one of the biggest attractions of the season, with golden aspens typically lingering into early October depending on weather. Scenic drives, hiking and biking are all excellent ways to enjoy the changing landscape, although trail conditions can change quickly as temperatures drop and early snow arrives.
For a quieter fall adventure, explore Breckenridge’s historic district and museums, take a guided historic or ghost tour, visit the Country Boy Mine, or spend an afternoon browsing local galleries and shops. October is also a great time for creative activities, with Breck Create offering pottery, painting, ceramics and other workshops throughout the month.
And don’t forget to keep an eye on the weather. October in the high country can bring everything from sunny, mild afternoons to freezing temperatures and snow. Pack layers, check trail conditions before heading out, and enjoy one of the most beautiful—and fleeting—seasons in the Colorado mountains.
Event dates and times are subject to change. Be sure to check with individual event organizers before making plans.
